Ang Dalawang Tatay

Sa gitna ng maalikabok
Mausok na kalsada
At naghaharutang sasakyan
Nakita kita

Ulo’y yukong-yuko
Balikat na nanlulumo
Pinupulot sumambulat na dala-dala

Isa, ang plastik na baunan
Pangalawa, dalawang gulay na upo
Pangatlo, di ko na makita kung ano
Nagmamadali kasi mga kilos mo
Di magkandatuto
Pagligpit ng mga ito
Sa kupasing bakpak nakasukbit sa likod mo.

Nang tumingala
Mukha ay puno ng pagsusumamo
Pilit ngumiti,
Humingi ng pang-unawa, paumanhin
Sa mamang nasa likod ng manibela
Ng magarang kotse
Muntik sumagasa sa iyo.

Ilang segundo rin
Tila tumigil ang ikot ng mundo
Eksenang nakwadro sa isipan
Ngunit sa isang iglap
Naglaho,napalitan
Rumaragasang mga sasakyan
At ako’y naalimpungatan.

Sa sulok ng aking mga mata
Nakikita ko naman si Tatang Selecta
Tingin napabaling sa kanya, nagtaka
Dati-rati siya ay nakangiti
Kumakaway, sumisipol
Kasabay sa magiliw na musika
Sa tangan na paninda.

Ngunit ngayon ay naiiba
Wala ang dating ngiti sa mga labi
Imbes sa nakasanayang pagpapadyak
Sa kanyang bisekletang panlako
Ng panindang sorbetes
Si Tatang Selecta ay buong bilis
Patakbong nagtulak sa bisekleta tangan ang sorbetes
Pilit nakisabay
Sa bilis ng mga sasakyan
Sa kalsadang binabagtas

Iyon pala
Siya ay napagitna
Dalawang sasakyang magagara
Humahagibis sa kalsada.

Last Autumn Bloom

Woke up to a chilly morning As night and day seemed to tug at each other Peered through the frosty window pane There in the flickering light of autumn dawn A lone white rose is in bloom… 13 october 2010  Alkmar,Netherlands

An Insider’s Account on the Forensic Investigation of the Nov23 Ampatuan Massacre

The November 23 Maguindanao massacre have shaken many of us. I was in a place with the only access to the outside world is through a 2-channel television when the news of the carnage broke out. Thus, the magnitude of the incident only sinks in the next day when I read it on the papers. A colleague had to make a trip to the City to buy the papers. Scanning the news, a victim’s name from the media caught my attention. A chill ran through me, it was one of our Council of Peoples’ Representatives from the Bagobo tribe, Mr. Napoleon Salaysay, from a local community paper in Cotabato City. I did not have the chance to get to know him fully, but I feel a deep sadness, not only for him but also for the rest of the massacre victims and their grieving families. Like other ordinary citizen, I also felt outraged with the callousness and impunity shown by the perpetrators. When the call from Atty. Harry Roque of CenterLaw Philippines came that his organization is planning to bring in forensic ...
